Bernie Gravett features in File on Four "Finding Freedom - The Fight Against Modern Slavery"

Bernie Gravett was happy to support the Radio Four programme "Finding Freedom - The Fight Against Modern Slavery". Aired in January the programme focuses on the current failures in the UK National Referral Mechanism".

The programme was made by Reporter: Paul Kenyon Producer: Alys Harte Development Producer: Oliver Newlan Editor: Gail Champion.

It is a profound examination of the ongoing failures in an antiquated and poorly thought out system. One of the biggest failures remain the departments who have the responsibility on the crucial responsibility for the reasonable grounds and conclusive grounds decisions. If you are an EU national then it's the police, but if you are from outside the EU, then it's the Immigration Services. The service with responsibility to remove 'illegal immigrants'. Read the submission made to the Parliamentary Committee in the run up to the Modern Slavery Act made by the Helen Bamber Foundation. There is deep seated bias in the system.

Also, we have had no Anti-Slavery Commissioner for many months. Who is steering the ship?
