Two results already this week…. we’re holding out for a hattrick!

As Modern Slavery experts, we don’t always get to hear the outcomes of the cases we provide independent reports for. This week though we’ve been notified of two positive outcomes.

The first case involves a young Albanian male, brought to the UK on the false promise of work, charged £20,000 by the gang, obviously unable to pay this back. Forced, over several years, to work for nothing in a car wash, an Intensive Cannabis Grow (ICG) and finally transporting Class A drugs by car.

When he objected, he was stabbed in the head. He didn’t object again!

He was finally referred into the National Referral Mechanism where our report was heavily relied on and referenced in the decision to grant him ‘Conclusive Grounds’ and recognise him as a victim of modern slavery.

“It is considered that you have provided a consistent, and plausible account in relation to your claimed exploitation. This has been drawn primarily from the Specialist Policing Consultancy Expert Opinion report (EO)”.

The second case involves a teenage boy, living in London, groomed by drug dealers. The boy was targeted due to his significant vulnerabilities and groomed – he was given gifts of second-hand designer clothes, free (or so he thought) cannabis and a sense of belonging. After a while the significantly inflated cannabis ‘debt’ was called in. With him having no means to pay he was put to work by the dealers – first transporting drugs and then dealing on their behalf.

Eventually the inevitable happened and he was arrested. Despite the police suspecting he was a victim of human trafficking, and referring him into the NRM, he was charged with drug dealing.

It was only after service of our independent report, at the start of the criminal trial, that the Crown offered ‘no evidence’.

As independent Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Experts, it really is a good day at the office when our reports are recognised as independent, detailed and professional pieces of work.

If that helps the vulnerable and allows others to make well informed decisions, then that is what it is all about!

At Specialist Policing Consultancy Ltd we pride ourselves on our Expert Witness services, whether this is on Modern Slavery, Police Procedure and Investigations or Use of Force. We always try and interview every client and hold to being thorough, detailed and independent.
